Kick off the 200th anniversary weekend for Lafayette's 1824 visit to Frederick, Maryland by welcoming Lafayette himself as he returns in style. The Marquis de Lafayette will be portrayed by renowned living historian Mark Schneider of Colonial Williamsburg. Join the fun as the Marquis de Lafayette returns to City Hall Park (101 N. Court St.) and be a part of the commemoration with living history during this FREE community event
hosted by the Lafayette in Frederick Committee. This event is part of the Lafayette 200 commemoration, a nationwide celebration commemorating the famous Frenchman's tour of the United States in 1824-25.
Frederick joins dozens of communities in celebrating the legacy of America’s favorite fighting Frenchman, a Revolutionary War hero and human rights activist.

The game is afoot! Two centuries ago, Lafayette visited Frederick during his adventures across America. Now, we commemorate the visit of the captivating Revolutionary War hero with an adventure of our own: a history hunt for Lafayette in Downtown Frederick! Our World-class Lafayette Interpreter from Colonial Williamsburg will be at the event to deliver inspiring remarks, answer questions, and offer clues. Walk in the footsteps of a legend as your team recreates Lafayette’s historic visit, solving puzzles and seeing the modern sights he would have seen all those generations ago! Come learn history by living history, and let the games begin!

The McPhersons and Lafayette – Saturday, December 28. 10 am to 4 pm

Celebrate the 200th anniversary of General Lafayette's visit to Frederick by learning more about one of his hosts, the McPhersons. Be sure to stop by for a special tour all about Fanny Johnson McPherson and her life as a child and young woman at Rose Hill and her husband John McPherson’s role in early American history with Thomas Johnson and John Grahame. With special exhibits and hands-on activities, this tour is
perfect for the whole family!

Explore one of Downtown Frederick’s most historic homes during this special event hosted by the Lafayette in Frederick Committee to commemorate the Frenchman’s 1824 visit to Frederick, Maryland. This special open house will allow registered visitors to step inside the home where Lafayette once stayed in December 1824. Interact with Lafayette himself, portrayed by Mark Schneider of Colonial Williamsburg.
