Bicentennial of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour Visits Yorktown, VA

FREEJoin the celebration commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Lafayette’s return to America in 1824 as “Guest of the Nation” in which he visited all 24 states and all surviving residents. Historian Mark Schneider will appear as Major General Lafayette.
This event will feature lectures, reenactments, and family-friendly events to celebrate our alliance with France and the founding of our nation. You’ll discover why Americans turned out in droves to celebrate the charismatic Frenchman everywhere he went — especially in Yorktown!
Presented by American Friends of Lafayette, Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, and America 250.
On the Docket
The free, accessible Yorktown Trolley will be in operation beginning at 11 a.m. during this event.
2:30 p.m.
- The 229th Infantry Band performs.
3 p.m.
- Lafayette arrives at the Riverwalk Landing Pier on the Luna.
- The Fifes and Drums of York Town perform.
- Artillery salute to Lafayette.
3:15 p.m.
- Welcome by Lafayette and Chuck Schwam of the American Friends of Lafayette at the Riverwalk Landing Stage
5 p.m.
- Lafayette travels to the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown
