Lafayette is welcomed by Methuen, MA

June 21, 2025 @ 12:00 pm1:15 pm

Saturday, June 21, 2025 will mark the 200th anniversary of the visit to Methuen by the Marquis De Lafayette. Lafayette’s visit to Methuen in 1825 was a grand event for the then town of Methuen. Our event this year will take place at the Bicentennial Park, located next to the Nevins Memorial Library (305 Broadway, Methuen, MA). The event will start at 12 noon and an excerpt from the New England Magazine dated September 1900 issue will be read. This article was originally written by 1st Church Congregational minister, Reverend Charles H. Oliphant. 200 years ago, a pig was roasted by the women in town, but this year we will have a large drawing of a roasted pig on display. Lafayette interpreter, Michael Halbert, will arrive in a horse and carriage. A local market will have a truck available to sell pork pies at the event. Local dignitaries will address the attendees, including the Mayor and others. Hoping for a great turnout for this event.
