Williston — 10:15 am The Williston Historical Society is excited to host Julien Icher of the Lafayette Trail, Inc. (a leading expert on the topic) and a General Lafayette actor (of Lafayette 200 in Vermont) to celebrate the unveiling of the Lafayette trail marker on the Williston Village Green (7773 Williston Rd, Williston, VT 05495) in honor of Lafayette’s reception in Williston on the same day in 1825. The event will last approximately 30 minutes and include remarks from the various stakeholders involved in the preparation of this historic occasion.
In conformity with the spirit of republican education championed by Lafayette in his time to promote a greater understanding by Americans of the ideals of freedom and democratic equality upon which their nation was founded, the event will be FREE OF CHARGE AND OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

We find comfort in knowing that once installed and dedicated, this monument will tell the story of Lafayette’s connection to Williston and Vermont and educate younger Americans about its meaning, thereby fulfilling Lafayette’s political goal of institutionalizing freedom across generations in the United States.
