Ball at Sansay House (EVENT SOLD OUT)
In 1825 Monsieur Louis Sansay taught dance to the young people of Morristown at his Sansay Dance House. Upon Lafayette’s return on his Farewell Tour, local citizens feted him with a ball, for men only, at $3 a ticket.
On July 13, 2025, we reenact this ball at the c. 1806 Sansay House. The ball will feature recipes from Mrs. Louise Macculloch’s kitchen, who along with her daughter Mary Louisa, decorated the Sansay House with greens and flowers. There will be reenactors, the 13 Lafayette toasts, and a Regency-era dancing demonstration. A quartet from the Baroque Orchestra of NJ will play background music featuring compositions that Lafayette may have heard. Hosts will send out invitations in the spring. This event is closed.
