March 27, 2025

March 27th, 2025

3:00 PM, Location: Butler Hall, 117 Ross St

The citizens of Gray, Jones Country, Georgia, are honored to take part in the Lafayette Bicentennial Tour, celebrating the enduring legacy of General Lafayette’s visit to Georgia. During his 1825 tour, Lafayette passed through Jones County, Georgia, traveling along the Old Federal Road—now Highway 49. He stopped at a stagecoach station to refresh himself and obtain fresh horses for his carriage. Citizens were overjoyed at the opportunity to see him.

In recognition of that historic moment, the town will host a commemorative event featuring a grand parade departing from Butler Hall, 117 Ross Street, at 3:00 PM. Lafayette, portrayed in period attire, will ride in a horse-drawn carriage, leading the procession to the Jones County Courthouse gazebo. There, city officials will offer formal greetings, followed by a presentation of colors by the Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard. The celebration will conclude with a reception at Butler Hall, where guests can reflect on Lafayette’s enduring contributions to American liberty.
