Bicentennial of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour Visits Havre de Grace, MD

FREELafayette did not plan a stop in Havre de Grace on his way to Baltimore on July 29. 1825, but he was persuaded by Havre de Grace citizens to make an impromptu stop. According to the journal of Lafayette’s secretary, they remained there for several hours. This July, citizens will line the banks of the Susquehanna River and wave Lafayette ashore to visit their small city. His boat will pull ashore at Frank Hutchins Park, and Lafayette will disembark to mingle with the citizens. The festive evening will include speeches by Lafayette and local dignitaries, music, activities for families and children, and, of course, food and beverages.
Open to all, free of charge.
