Bicentennial of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour Visits Trenton, NJ

September 26, 2024 @ 11:00 am 2:00 pm

200 Years Later, 120 East State, the American Friends of Lafayette, and the Daughters of the American Revolution Welcome General Lafayette at 120 East State Street, Trenton

On Sunday, September 26, 1824, Revolutionary War hero, General and Marquis Lafayette worshipped at Trenton’s First Presbyterian Church as part of his tour of the United States.

Two centuries later, as the nation marks the 200th anniversary of Lafayette’s journey, 120 East State, the non-profit transforming First Presbyterian into The Steeple Center, welcomes Lafayette (reenactor Michael Halbert) back to Trenton and First Presbyterian Church and cemetery.

Join us on Thursday, September 26, 2024, between 11 am and 2 pm. Meet Lafayette, take a walk through the historic cemetery, visiting the final resting places of Lafayette’s comrades; hear the historic bell which rang in 1824; and join in a commemorative wreath-laying with the Daughters of the American Revolution. Then tour the historic building, see the Oh Freedom! traveling exhibit and the AFL’s Lafayette traveling exhibit, ask questions about Lafayette, and learn more about 120 East State’s plans for the site’s future.
