Bicentennial of Lafayette’s Tour Visits Fort Mitchell, AL

The event at Fort Mitchell will begin on Sunday, March 30 at 2:00 ET with a parade. This will be a free but ticketed event. Tickets can be acquired at lafayette200.org. We will have reenactors for Lafayette, Chilly McIntosh, and Henry Crowell. The parade will begin at the welcome center, go down through the Fort, and back to the pavilion, where we will have a musical ensemble and a program with dignitaries. Lafayette will have a horse-drawn carriage for the parade. After the program, we will have refreshments in the Tavern, and commemorative merchandise for sale. Tours of the Fort and the museum in the welcome center. There will also be six 7’ panels with information about Lafayette in the welcome center. There will be blacksmiths, quilters, tanners, woodworkers, and people cooking over a fire and performing other activities of a working fort. There will be an antique gun display as well. There will be Native Americans (Creek rein-actors) outside the fort set up as a small village and playing a game of stickball which they did when Lafayette was there in 1825.

Monday, March 31:
There will be 4 opportunities for school field trip tours. Two in the morning, two in the afternoon.

Tour the walk thru museum

Lafayette and Chilly will meet the kids at the Native American Monument to talk to them and answer questions

Walk to the fort, Carriage house and Cabin

Picnic facilities are available for the kids to bring their lunch
