General Lafayette’s Salute to Summer in Norwich, CT

In 1824 Lafayette was the honored guest at a formal dinner in Norwich at the Kinney Hotel. Two
hundred years later, the Norwich Historical Society once again welcomes Lafayette to the Rose
City and invites you to meet the great man in person.
3:00 pm – Norwichtown Green, 69 East Main Street, Norwich, CT
Lafayette re-enactor and NHS tour guide Sandra Soucy will lead visitors from Norwichtown
Green through the historic neighborhood and Old Burial Grounds. This walk will highlight Lafayette’s
time in Norwich during the American Revolution, the patriots he knew, and other French
connections to the city.
Registration is required, and spaces are limited. This walk is free for NHS members and $10 for

4:00 pm – Norwichtown Green, 69 East Main Street, Norwich, CT
“Lafayette” will be welcomed to the Norwichtown Green by costumed 1820s reenactors and
modern-day dignitaries. After a brief ceremony, there will be 18th-century and early 19th-century
ice cream-making demonstrations. Visitors are welcome to sample modern-day frozen
confections generously provided by Norwich’s own Mini Melts.
This program is free and open to the public. Attire circa 1750-1830 is encouraged, but not
required!
Around 5:30 pm – These Guys Brewing Company, 78 Franklin Street, Norwich, CT
Lafayette and the Norwich Historical Society reenactors will move to downtown Norwich to host
Lafayette and Norwich-themed pub trivia at These Guys Brewing Company.
Come and celebrate this milestone and meet the great man in person.
