Lafayette Day at Historic Northampton courthouse
Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Noon
You are cordially invited to gather at the Historic Northampton County Courthouse for Lafayette Day as we kick off our Bicentennial Re-enactment and Celebration of General Marquis de Lafayette’s historic visit to Northampton Court House on February 27, 1825, period attire (Regency) admired, but not required.
Lafayette and his entourage will arrive in a horse-drawn carriage and will be greeted by the North Carolina Delegation from Raleigh led by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John L Taylor and Lafayette’s battle field compatriot, Col. William Polk just as he was in 1825. Everyone will then proceed to Lafayette Park and the nearby mural depicting the historic visit.
Information on Lafayette’s life will be on display as well as historic memorabilia at the Bay Sire Bistro from noon to 3:00 pm for public viewing. Julien Icher, founder and President of the Lafayette trail will give a special presentation on Lafayette at 2:30 pm at the Bay Sire Bistro. This is free and open to the public.
There will be a regency period dinner featuring a re-enactment of the dinner provided to Lafayette when he visited in 1825. This dinner is by invitation only and is currently full.
